The Coffin - Design Process

After creating a cardboard mockup of the coffin I then created illustrator files to prepare for laser cutting.
When the laser cutting was complete my team members and I began sculpting the raised parts of the coffin, below are some examples of what we did.
I attached the plastic parts to the wood using 5-minute epoxy.

The clay parts were then molded in silicone and cast in plastic.
I created a base out of ¾ birch and the sides were cut out of ¼ MDF. Parts of the plastic cast that did not connect were covered with propoxy and sculpted to match the curves.
The coffin was painted brown before I painted it gold so that there would be some depth and dimension.
